In Memory of Liudmyla Mykytivna Kudriavkina

With deep sorrow, we announce an irreparable loss — on 21 January 2026, Liudmyla Mykytivna Kudriavkina passed away.

Liudmyla Mykytivna was born on 12 January 1940 in the city of Vinnytsia, into the family of a serviceman.

In 1966, she graduated from Kharkiv State University, majoring in Ukrainian Language and Literature.

Throughout her life, Liudmyla Mykytivna remained devoted to serving the Ukrainian word. She worked as an editor and proofreader at the publishing houses Dnipro and Naukova Dumka, making a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian scholarly and literary writing. For her conscientious many years of service, she was awarded the distinction “Veteran of Labour.”

From 31 March 2015, Liudmyla Mykytivna worked at the Ukrainian Lingua-Information Fund of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where her professionalism, responsibility, and exceptional attention to detail became a true pillar of our shared work. Particularly invaluable was her contribution to the Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language, especially in the preparation and editing of its materials.

Liudmyla Mykytivna left behind countless priceless editorial recommendations, always expressing them with remarkable delicacy — with care not to offend even unintentionally. Every thought of hers mattered, every remark was precise and well considered, and every conversation was filled with experience, warmth, and light.

She was an extraordinarily kind, empathetic, intelligent, and responsible person — a specialist of the highest calibre. Despite declining health in recent years, Liudmyla Mykytivna continued to work, making a substantial contribution to our shared fundamental project.

Her passing is an immense loss for her colleagues, the Ukrainian linguistic community, and all who had the honour of knowing Liudmyla Mykytivna.

We express our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones.

May her memory be bright… Eternal memory…

which is developed and published by the Ukrainian Lingua-Information Foundation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;

INTEGRATED SYSTEM «DICTIONARIES OF UKRAINE ONLINE»(Inflection. Synonymy. Phraseology. https://lcorp.ulif.org.ua/dictua/).

The Ukrainian Lingua-Information Foundation serves and, if possible, updates and develops new features to more than 50 UNIQUE VIRTUAL LABORATORIES of different types (https://lcorp.ulif.org.ua/).

The Ukrainian Lingua-Information Foundation has created and is constantly updating UKRAINIAN NATIONAL LINGUISTIC CORPUS (https://svc.ulif.org.ua/UNLC/virt_unlc_4.5/).

We dream of placing it in the public domain, but this requires resources.

The digital linguistic capacities of the Ukrainian Lingua-Information Foundation are located on Ukrainian and foreign servers.

We must constantly service these servers and replace the equipment that fails, otherwise everything will be destroyed without the possibility of renewal.

Our scientists are actively working on their language front, but we extremely need the help of our international friends and partners.

We understand the disastrous situation in our country, but the Dictionaries and the Ukrainian National Linguistic Corpus need to be saved, preserved and raised to new heights in a free and independent Ukrainian state!

We believe in victory, we believe in the support of foreign friends, we believe that with your help the Ukrainian language will live and rise to new digital heights!

Let's overcome russia's aggression and terrorism together, let's not allow the most valuable dictionaries in our culture to be destroyed.

With gratitude and respect - scientists of the Ukrainian Lingua-Information Foundation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Круглий стіл із мовної політики ухвалив рішення про створення національної лінгвістичної інфраструктури

The roundtable on language policy adopted a decision to establish a national linguistic infrastructure

On July 17, 2025, at the premises of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS of Ukraine), an interagency roundtable, “Conceptual Issues of Language Policy: Legal, Scientific, and Technological Aspects,” was held. The event was initiated by the National Commission on State Language Standards jointly with NAS of Ukraine, with the participation of the Ukrainian Lingua-Information Foundation of the NAS of Ukraine (ULIF), the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and the National Center “Junior Academy of Sciences” of Ukraine.

The key outcome was support for the course toward creating a modern system of national linguistic resources and a linguistic infrastructure — the “Virtualized Intellectualized Language-Information Ecosystem ‘All-Ukrainian Linguistic Dialogue’” — to serve the needs of public policy, security, and the development of language technologies.

The purpose of the event was to form a shared vision of the legal, scientific, and technological foundations of state language policy under conditions of full-scale war and Russia’s information and humanitarian aggression, as well as to coordinate practical steps to strengthen the role of the Ukrainian language as a key factor in national security, resilience, and development.

Work on this edition was carried out in difficult wartime conditions and was possible only thanks to the unconditional dedication of the team of compilers and the use of the unique "Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language" virtual lexicographic laboratory created at the Foundation.
